3 Kinds of Darkness
Have you been in touch with your darkness? Are you in touch with your darkness?
A shaman asked me that once, and so did a Facebook quiz, and my kickboxing instructor. But I don’t really need anyone to ask.
I weave in and out of my darkness and I’ve dipped down into hell and come back unscathed. Everyone has darkness - to be human is to have darkness. The norm is to try to diminish it, to overcome it, to defeat it, destroy it, and shine a light on it. We don’t allow it in our lives, and when we see or feel any sign of it, we try to banish it.
I welcome it. Can you have a full day without the nightfall? Does yin not have a yang? Is there only one season?
Some say there are three kinds of darkness.
The darkness you hide and stash away
The darkness that you confront and fight
The darkness that you let consume you
I think there’s a fourth, or maybe not. Maybe there’s not even three—there’s only one.
Yes, there’s one kind of darkness, and that’s the darkness that you embrace.
